Overview

TEDxSantaClaraUniversity is an independently licensed TEDx chapter — the same TEDx brand most people associate with viral talks, but locally produced and student-run. When I took over as President, the chapter had been dormant: no active officers, no constitution being followed, no speaker pipeline, no sponsors. The brand was alive on paper; the organization was not.

My job became part founder, part operator: rebuild the institution so it could outlast me, then put a great event on the calendar.

What I did

  • Rewrote the organizational constitution to clarify roles, decision rights, and term lengths.
  • Designed a three-tier governance structure — President overseeing two Vice Presidents and 6+ directing officers across speaker relations, marketing, sponsorship, production, and operations.
  • Stood up speaker curation — outreach, vetting, talk development support, and rehearsal cadence.
  • Built a sponsorship pipeline for local and university-aligned partners to fund production.
  • Standardized officer onboarding and event-planning workflows so future Presidents inherit a system, not a clean slate.

Challenge

A dormant TEDx chapter with no active leadership, no governance, and no speaker or sponsor pipeline.

Approach

Treat it as a turnaround: rebuild structure first, then recruit, then ship. Build for the next President, not just for me.

Outcome

[Add concrete outcomes here once event ships — attendance, speakers booked, sponsorship $ raised, applications received, etc.]
